Pam and Mike were married on August 22nd with a ceremony and reception at the State Room in Downtown Boston.
I met Pam at one of my former bride’s baby showers. (Yes, I get invited to those, and it’s great.) When I was there, this beautiful young woman came up to me and said, “I think I’m about to get engaged, and when I do, I’m so hiring you!” I love a woman who knows what she wants! This woman’s name was Pamela and she was and is my kind of girl.
About 8 months later, I get an email from Pamela . . . yup, engaged and yup, she wanted to hire me. When she told me that their wedding was going to be at The State Room in Boston, my heart jumped, because I had yet to photograph a wedding there. I was so in!
I got to meet her amazing partner in crime, Mike, a few months after they booked me for their “practice session” .We really got to know one another during that shoot, and I spent a lot of time talking to Mike about his time in the Marines and his deployment overseas. Mike is a Nantucket guy through and through—born and raised there. Pam grew up in a suburb outside of Boston, and they actually met under a gazebo in Nantucket.
My second shooter, Vanessa Walsh, and I started out getting ready at The Ames Hotel in Boston. Pam had the most incredible suite, which had killer light and plenty of space for everyone to get beautiful.
I stopped by Mike’s room to get Vanessa settled in, and while I was there, Mike informed me of a serious photo idea that he HAD to have. He and his friends really wanted to write on the window of the wall “Free Brady” . . . yes, as in Tom Brady. Because this was prime time for DeFlategate, and Mike is a DIE HARD Pats fan. I have to say those shots and their execution by Mike and his buddies were exactly how I would have envisioned it.
The hotel was so close to the State Room that we actually all were able to walk there and snap a bunch of photos during the chaos of all the tourists and locals walking by and photobombing everything.
They had a beautiful ceremony overlooking the entire city of Boston, and then I stole Mike and Pam to do some formals in the middle of Faneuil Hall. Then it was cocktails and loads of dining and dancing.
Thank you, Pam, for choosing me even before you were engaged. I loved meeting you and Mike and documenting your amazing day!
